Devotion 5 | Freshly Squeezed

Florida is known as the orange state. There are 74 million citrus trees in Florida and with that many trees it is no surprise that 90% of the US orange juice production comes from Florida oranges.

There is nothing like freshly squeeze orange juice.  It is so refreshing, some would even say it’s like a breakfast dessert drink.  Whether you like pulp or not, there is no denying the great taste of orange juice.

What if one day you cut open an orange and began squeezing it out and all looked great, but when you put the glass to your lips and took a sip it tasted like pumpkin juice.  I would be in absolute shock! Not that a pumpkin drink is bad but just the shock of it not being orange juice would surprise me.

When squeezed, the juice that comes out should match the fruit.  That is the way God designed it to work. How hard would it be to go grocery shopping looking at all the fruit but then trying to guess what will come out when squeezed? The same should be for our own lives.

Matthew 12:33-35 NLT
“A tree is identified by its fruit. If a tree is good, its fruit will be good. If a tree is bad, its fruit will be bad. You brood of snakes! How could evil men like you speak what is good and right? For whatever is in your heart determines what you say. A good person produces good things from the treasury(what is stored up) of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury(what is stored up) of an evil heart.”

-Jesus

Production

What is produced and said in our lives has a direct connection to what we have stored up in our heart.

Luke 6:45 NKJV

For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.

Take Action

What are you putting into your life? What are you filling your heart with?  Is it hours of Facebook that is full of drama or is it praise and worship that is full of joy and peace?

Take a few minutes and evaluate what you are putting in your life. Is it beneficial? Does it need to be trashed? Does my schedule need to be reworked? Identify and make necessary changes. Write them down if needed.
